For many of us, the colder months are naturally a time to slow down and recharge, and the same can be said for our pets. Smaller animals like rabbits and guinea pigs are especially vulnerable to changes in temperature extremes, so giving them somewhere warm and dry where they can retreat is essential.
In this issue, vet Emma Chandley shares her top tips for keeping small animals healthy and cosy all the way through to spring. We also have some helpful advice from behaviourist Karen Wild on how to keep dogs comfortable and pain-free as the temperatures plummet. As Karen writes: ‘Even if your dog hasn’t had a diagnosis of arthritis, cold weather can bring out hidden signs, and it’s important to get these checked.’
Elsewhere in this issue, we meet the charity Our Special Friends, which provides practical and emotional support to keep pets and their owners together during challenging times. Led entirely by volunteers, it’s clear how much this organisation means to its clients and how it brings joy to those missing a connection with animals.
Finally, whether you’re welcoming a new kitten, helping your pet recover from surgery, or getting a pet snake, we have range of guides to support you every step of the way
