Hoopers: low-impact agility for dogs

Did you know that we now offer Hoopers agility at Moreton Hall Veterinary Centre and Ipswich Veterinary Centre?

Hoopers is a low-impact version of an agility course, with obstacles specifically designed for dogs with mobility issues. Its goal is to protect your pet’s long-term health and wellbeing, while remaining accessible for different abilities.

The sport is divided into four separate classes: hoopers, barrels, tunnels and mixed. While much of a Hoopers course is focused on the hoops, your instructor will introduce barrels and tunnels as a dog progresses.

Each obstacle in a Hoopers course has been adapted to make them more accessible for less agile dogs. The hoops are ground level to reduce jumping, the tunnels are extra wide, and the barrels are of a soft fabric to avoid injury. The route will have no sharp turns or sudden stops.

There is also the opportunity to achieve certificates for success during our Hoopers classes! As you and your dog’s skills develop, you’ll be challenged to progress through six levels that test your dog’s ability to manage different obstacles and follow commands.

This class is suitable for dogs of every breed size, as well as those with mobility issues and those requiring additional attention. If you have any concerns about your dog’s suitability, please speak to a member of our team.
